NH Now: Madeleine Albright Says That Women Should Vote for Hillary Clinton, Or Else!

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright joined Chris Ryan for an extended discussion of the Democratic Presidential race, foreign policy, and her frustration with young women who do not support Hillary Clinton’s bid to be the first woman president. Albright, who has obvious credentials as a foreign policy expert, was critical of Senator Sanders lack of knowledge or interest in foreign policy. Madeleine Albright served during Bill Clinton’s administration as US Ambassador to the United Nations and then as the first female Secretary of State. When she gave briefings on Capitol Hill, Albright doesn’t recall Bernie Sanders ever being in attendance. Albright was critical of Sanders’ always bringing up Hillary Clinton’s vote on the Iraq War instead of answering questions about what he would do now. She defends Hillary Clinton by saying that one vote does not represent a policy. Albright gives Hillary Clinton high marks for her knowledge of the complexity, context, and history of issues involving US foreign policy.

The comment which has gathered the most media attention has to do with a saying which Madeleine Albright has used frequently in the past. Madeleine Albright feels that many young women today do not appreciate how difficult the struggle for women’s’ rights has been. She identifies Hillary Clinton as a person who has always worked for women’s issues, such as equal pay for equal work and supporting the Roe v Wade decision. Albright fears that the progress which has been made could easily be derailed by a Republican administration which could potentially name three new Supreme Court Justices.
