NH Now: Governor John Kasich Has Surged into Second Place in Recent NH Polls

GOP Presidential candidate John Kasich has moved into second place in an average of the most recent polling in New Hampshire. The last three polls which have been taken have Kasich in second place. The American Research Group’s poll has Kasich with 20% behind Donald Trump with 27%. Chris Ryan joined him on his campaign bus to talk about why the Ohio governor is surging.

John Kasich has conducted a relentless ground game in New Hampshire–doing lots of town hall meetings and gradually picking up endorsements from Republican leaders in the state. Kasich says that at town hall events he tries to encourage voters to ask what is on their minds. He uses humor and a straightforward discussion of his record to win their support. Kasich claims that he hasn’t encountered what the pundits have described as “angry voters”. He shared a story about meeting a Trump voter who stated emphatically that he wouldn’t vote for Kasich. However, as the man was leaving, he told Governor Kasich, “But, I really like you!”

To John Kasich, these are the qualities of a president: vision; toughness; competence; and firmness. A leader is someone who gives people hope that everyone can rise and have a sense of what they can do to make things better. Communication would be an important part of a Kasich presidency. His campaign uses technology very effectively, especially Snapchat and Twitter. As president, Kasich says that he would do a great deal of traveling around the country. He would make a point to visit many of the state houses. He wants to talk to the legislatures in those states in order to share ideas that work. There would also be lots of town hall meetings, so he could connect with the American people.

On a lighter note, the Ohio governor has picked the Patriots over the Broncos. He stated that leaders like Belichik get everybody to play at a higher level.

Up to this point, John Kasich has been under the radar. Now that he is making news there will be more media scrutiny, so we will see where his campaign goes from here.
