A lot can change in a year.
In February of last year when I sat in Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s office in DC she seemed invincible. A popular center-democrat in a center-democrat leaning state. People wondered who would even run against her. Former Congressman Jeb Bradley? Maybe. But, He’d get beaten badly.
Imagine if I had told Senator Shaheen that Bob Smith would move back from Florida to run against her and Scott Brown was going to sell his house in Massachusetts, shack up in Rye and show up shirtless to jump in the frigid Atlantic Ocean for the Penguin Pledge?
Would the reaction have been a blank stare? Laughter? Would my sanity have been questioned and the Capitol Hill Police summoned?
She’s still a favorite as shown by a recent Boston Herald poll that has her leading Brown 52-39%, but a non-existent race is now a amazing one
