NH Now: Chris Pappas 6-19-20

Congressman Pappas on Police Reform: “New Hampshire Is in a Pretty Good Place in Terms of the Communication That Communities of Color Have with Law Enforcement and Also Some of the Steps Forward Which WE Have Taken with De-escalation Training and Racial Bias Training.”

In an interview with WKXL’s Chris Ryan, the Representative from New Hampshire’s First Congressional District, Chris Pappas, reacts to allegations by former National Security Advisor, John Bolton; discusses a $1 trillion bill to improve our country’s infrastructure; and weighs in on the two police reform bills being considered–one by the House and another by the Senate.

Congressman Pappas says that John Bolton had an opportunity to make his revelations about President Trump during the impeachment process; but, unfortunately, Mr. Bolton was more interested in selling his book.

Congressman Pappas, as a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, is working on the Invest in America Act. Part of this bill calls for spending $500 billion over the next five years on improving roads, bridges, seaports, and transit systems. New Hampshire would see a 30% increase in funding. The future of public transportation is also discussed.
The Congressman believes that the differences between the House and Senate police reform bills can be reconciled. Both bills have what Congressman Pappas calls common sense provisions for banning procedures like choke holds and have improved ways of reporting police misconduct.
